AIChE Chili Cookoff
The annual AIChE Chili Cook-off was held again this year in the Chemical Engineering student lounge in Bell Engineering Center. As in years past, faculty and staff have lugged in pots of chili for the annual AIChE event. No one seems to know for sure when the tradition began, but it is a good chance for students and faculty to get together in November.
One year, reportedly, nobody brought chili in, and at the last minute, people had to run to Wendy’s to get some to serve to the students that day. Many years, they even ran out. A few years ago, Mrs. Clausen generously decided to take over the execution of said cook-off, and it’s been smooth sailing ever since. Not to mention—her brownies are legendary.
This year we had a staggering 150 attendees, and indeed, the chili was decimated by the end of the event. There were seven participants in the cook-off, and after considerable redistribution of ‘votes,’ in the form of cold hard cash, which some might say was cheating, a winner was declared! With a 3 cent lead, Dr. Jerry King (with $2.66 in his cup) emerged as this year’s holder of the coveted trophy!
