Annual Spring Banquet, April 22, 2005
Students, faculty and staff of the Ralph E. Martin Department of Chemical Engineering mix it up with department alumni over a relaxing dinner, complete with awards and entertainment. Andy Crews, Vice President of Process and Technology for CB&I Howe Baker, was the guest speaker for the evening, and Andy gave a heart warming account of the positive impact his time in the department had on his life - particularly Dr. Jim Turpin. Dr. Turpin was further surprised with the announcement of a scholarship endowment established by department alumni in his honor; Melissa Myrick and Karen Clausen spearheaded this effort with corporate support from Lion Oil and Arkansas Eastman. Ray Adam was honored as an inaugural inductee of the Arkansas Academy of Engineers. The WERC Design Competition teams were honored for their first place showing and receipt of the USDA CSREES award. The team faculty sponsors, Drs. Roy Penney, Greg Thoma, and Bob Beitle, were thanked by the students for their efforts with a little joking about faculty eccentricities thrown in. Department scholarships were awarded, and the students presented a skit making fun of the faculty.
