Dr. Turpin’s primary interests have been in undergraduate teaching, job placement of graduates, and recruitment and retention of undergraduates. He has been the recipient of over 30 teaching and service awards over a period of four decades. These awards have been at the departmental, college, university, state, and national level. His long-term reputation as a teacher resulted in his being named a Co-Director of the Cordes Teaching and Faculty Support Center at the University of Arkansas for 2002-2004.
A scholarship honoring Dr. Turpin was recently established by alumni and corporate gifts from Lion Oil and Arkansas Eastman. Melissa Myrick and Karen Clausen started the grassroots effort which ultimately involved over 30 alumni and established the scholarship with an endowment of over $25,000. Contributions to the scholarship endowment can be made by contacting the department.
