Dr. Jamie Hestekin's research interests are in membrane processing, specifically processing for more efficient utilization of biomass. His current research includes the use of wafer-enhanced electrodeionization, a relatively new separation technique, to allow removal of organic ions even at very low concentrations. This work has recently led to a R&D 100 award http://www.cmt.anl.gov/awards/bioreactor.shtml. Dr. Hestekin plans to continue this research in the areas of nutraceutical concentration, biomass conversion and recovery, and esterifications.

Dr. Jamie Hestekin's work has lead to 6 granted US patents, 8 US and world patent applications, and 30 technical publications and presentations. He is actively involved in AIChE and the North American Membrane Society (NAMS). He recently chaired the 2006 NAMS Meeting in Chicago, Illinois, which brought together over 430 of the top membrane scientists in the world.
