NASA Aeronautics Scholarship Program
Ends: Jan 11, 2010
Begins: Sep 02, 2009
The NASA Aeronautics Scholarship Program which is administered by the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) is officially accepting applications for the 2010 Aeronautics Scholarship Program. It is expected that approximately 20 two-year undergraduate, and 5 two-year with an option of a third year graduate scholarships will be awarded annually to students pursuing aeronautical engineering and related fields such as Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics and Mathematics. Total allocated award amounts are up to $40,000 for undergraduates and up to $125,000 for graduates. These funds will go towards tuition and related costs, as well as to provide paid summer internship opportunities at a NASA research center.
Competitive applicants interested in this amazing opportunity should begin completing application materials immediately. A completed application will consist of profile information, academic background (including transcripts), a resume, an essay for undergraduates, a proposal for graduates, letters of recommendations, and any test scores, such as GRE's, when appropriate.
Completed applications will be collected electronically from September 1, 2009 through January 11, 2010. To learn more about eligibility requirements, award benefits, application instructions, and to apply online, visit https://nasa.asee.org, or contact nasa.asp@asee.org with any questions regarding this program. Professor Jerry King is looking for students to do SURF projects
Ends: Dec 31, 2009
Begins: Oct 07, 2009
Dr. Jerry King is looking for students who are interested in doing undergraduate research projects. These projects include: (1) High pressure view cell measurements in gas-expanded CO2 – H2O systems. Research will contribute to a better understanding of the catalytic properties of compressed CO2 – aqueous systems. Student will gain proficiency in phase equilibria measurements, high pressure instrumentation and measurements, CCD camera video camera recording of physicochemical changes under high pressure and temperatures, and writing of scientific papers.
(2) Thermodynamic inverse gas chromatographic measurements of biopolymer – solute systems at infinite and finite dilution involving modified starches and biodegradable polymers. Student will gain experience in physicochemical measurements with highly – modified gas chromatographic instrumentation and data recording on computers, and reduction of chromatographic measured parameters to engineering data. Student will be expected to make presentations and prepare manuscripts for scientific and engineering journals/conferences.
(3) High pressure carbon dioxide catalyzed lipid and vegetable oil transformations in alcohol or water based solvent systems. Student will be expected to run reactions at elevated pressures and temperatures and characterize reaction products by GC and/or HPLC methods. Projected research has relevance in new synthetic routes for oleochemical derivatives and biofuels production. Contact Dr. King (575-3835 or jwking1@uark.edu) if you are interested.
